KALI LIVE! presents Zimbabwean-South African essayist and novelist Panashe Chigumadzi in Kenya for the first time!

Her debut novel "Sweet Medicine" won the 2016 K. Sello Duiker Literary Award. Her second, "These Bones Will Rise Again," published last year, was a revealing reflection on Robert Mugabe’s ouster.

Plus, her highly-acclaimed essay, "Why I Am No Longer Talking To Nigerians About Race," made waves as soon as it was published in April 2019.

Chigumadzi will be in conversation with KALI LIVE! favorite Nanjala Nyabola.


KALI LIVE! presents Kenyan author Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor, whose second book"THE DRAGONFLY SEA" was released in March.

Her first novel, ‘DUST’, was published by Knopf, NY to critical acclaim, and she won the 2003 Caine Prize for African Writing for her story "Weight of Whispers."

Owuor will be in conversation with writer and political analyst Nanjala Nyabola. They will discuss the new book among many other topics.

KALI LIVE! presents the launch of Kenyan writer and political analyst Nanjala Nyabola’s first book "Digital Democracy, Analogue Politics." Her new book is a fascinating account of how the digital age has impacted Kenyan politics, and the consequences for understanding the role of social media in democracies across Africa.

Nyabola will be in conversation with writer, journalist and 2018 Harvard University Nieman Fellow Christine Mungai. They will discuss the new book as well as the importance and urgency of women putting pen to paper.
